Review: L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Kajal Eyeliner in 501 Oriental Black

Today I will be reviewing this huge eyeliner from L’Oreal! =P This eyeliner was also a part of the same trial team package that came with the L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascaras by Beautyheaven. What really shocked me the most was that the pencil was a lot more larger than a typical pencil eyeliner.

This eyeliner is advertised as being “highly pigmented” and being designed to “create easy smokey eyes“. It has a “unique cone-shaped tip for easy application” and an “ultra-creamy formula for an effortless glide“. The liner is claimed to be “smudge, crease and fade resistant” and contains a “high concentration of ultra-black pigments for a deep shade of black“.

I really enjoy the shape of the pencil. It is very large but tapered to a perfect sized point to precisely line your upper eyelids as well as pack on colour onto the waterline. I like to use the pencil on its side to gradually build up the eyeliner and it provides a lot more precision.

The eyeliner is highly pigmented but because it is very creamy, it tends to smudge. If you have oily lids, be prepared for it to transfer especially if you have hooded eyelids!

Applied just as an eyeliner on both the upper lash line and waterline

This eyeliner really is very creamy and easy to apply on the waterline. It literally takes no effort at all for it to deliver as a highly pigmented black liner. I also think that it can be used quite nicely as a base for a smokey eye if blended out with a pencil brush but I think it would look better with some eyeshadows applied on top.

♡ Very creamy

♡ Easy to apply on the waterline

♡ Cone-shaped tip makes for very easy application

♡ Great pigmentation

♡ Requires sharpening

♡ Can sometimes apply unevenly on the eyelids

♡ Not smudge proof (especially on oily eyelids)

Would You Rather? Beauty Edition ♡

1. Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?
Nooo, this makes me so sad LOL! =( Hm, I would choose the first option! I have too many palettes and eyeshadows so they’re worth a lot more LOL. I could easily repurchase the first lot and spend less money! If the question meant that I wouldn’t be able to ever repurchase anything then I would pick the second option because I could still do a whole face of makeup with the first! =)

2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
Never be able to cut it again! My hair is at a point where it’s growing quite slowly and I prefer the look of long hair on me anyway!

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
A pink cheek! =) I feel that pink goes with absolutely everything.

4. If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?
I would choose makeup! =) I could get a lot more makeup than clothes so it’s a better bang for the buck!

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner or eyeliner as lipstick?
Eyeliner as lipstick! Hehehe there are pink/orange/red eyeliners right? =P

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
Sephora! I like variety in my makeup! I’ve also never tried any MAC products before.

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow or one lip colour for the rest of your life?
Definitely eyeshadow. I like experimenting with different lip colours!

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in the summer or summer clothes in the winter?
I’d rather be cold than hot so definitely summer clothes in the winter!

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?
Bright nails! =) I don’t wear dark nails that often even though I love the look of them!

10. Would you rather give up your favourite lip product or your favourite eye product?
Probably lip product I think, since I don’t really have one. I have too many favourites so if I got rid of one, I guess I would be happy to just use my other ones?

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?
Messy bun! I feel like my whole face is too in the open when it’s in a ponytail LOL. I also think messy buns look cuter! =)

12. Would you never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?
Lipgloss, I don’t use it as often and I’m more of a lipstick/lip tint kind of girl!

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?
Oh no! =( I would have to go with sharpie! I still often leave the home without my brows done because they’re decently dark and full so I guess I would just really lightly use the sharpie to fill in the sparse areas near the ends of my brows!

14. Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?
I love nail polish but I love makeup more! =P

I really love doing tags hehe and a lot of you seem to enjoy reading and posting your own answers too! Feel free to do this tag and publish your own post! I would love to read what your beauty preferences are. ♡

Review: Etude House Tear Drop Powder in #2 Crystal Gold Tear

This is the seconEtudeHouseTearDropGlitterPackagingd eye glitter that I own and it’s in a lovely pale yellow gold shade. After trying the one from Too Cool For School (Review), I knew that I wanted to try some other shades! Korean eye glitters are more subtle in comparison to ones in the Western market so they can be used for an everyday neutral makeup look but at the same time, they can be buildable and layered for night outs too.

Considering that it is from Etude House, it comes to no surprise that the packaging is so adorable! Like the one from TCFS, it has a small opening for you to take product out and this stops you from making an absolute mess. I find that it is best applied with either a pencil brush for a nicely blended out application or a Q-tip/cotton bud to pack on the glitter. There is no way that a larger brush can fit and using your finger could turn out a mess! =P

The glitter is very finely milled but the payoff is phenomenal. You really do not need to spend a lot of time layering it on. It makes your eyes sparkle so beautifully in the sunlight!

I think this glitter, like any other glitter, is great for adding glam to a makeup look. There is nothing to say other than that it is absolutely beautiful and if you have an opportunity to pick this up, definitely go for it! =)

♡ Not extremely messy to use (easy to apply)

♡ Long lasting

♡ Beautiful colour

♡ Cute packaging

♡ Inexpensive

Seven Deadly Sins of Makeup Tag

1. Greed: What’s your most inexpensive beauty item? What’s your most expensive beauty item?

My most inexpensive beauty item would probably be my Daiso makeup. Everything in the store is $2.80 and I have several eyeshadow palettes from there. But since my collection has expanded a lot since I purchased them, I don’t ever use them anymore! For most expensive, it’d be my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder. Living in Australia, makeup is already expensive as is so you can assume that higher end products are even more ridiculous in price! Thankfully, this is a powder that I use everyday but it still has not dented in the slightest so I know it’s great value for money. I paid $59 for it! x_x At least it’s an amazing product! If we’re including tools then it would definitely have to be my Clarisonic Mia 2, it’s a huge investment and considering that the brush heads need replacements once in awhile, it adds up! It’s still one of the best beauty items I have ever purchased though! =)

2. Wrath: What item do you have a love/hate relationship with?

Definitely false eyelashes. I love how they look but I hate applying them (they can get really messy) and I always get worried that they might start to peel off to the point where people will start to look at me funny. =(

3. Gluttony: What brand takes up most of your collection?

I’ll have to go with Too Faced. They have amazing products and I’ve never had any bad experiences with them. The packaging is also just so adorable!

4. Sloth: What product do you neglect the most due to laziness?

Primer! I know that they make a big difference in how your makeup applies and looks but I’m just not bothered to use them, especially face primers.

5. Pride: What product gives you the most confidence?

Definitely BB cream or foundation. I’ve already mentioned that my skin is my biggest insecurity so if I can get it to look nice and even then I’ll be a lot more confident in myself! =) I’m definitely going to look into skin treatments so that I can be a lot more comfortable in my own skin and not feel bad about going into public with absolutely no makeup on.

6. Lust: Which item is at the top of your beauty wishlist?

There are so many things I want to try because of all the blog posts I’ve read and it’s hard to keep track too LOL! Right now I really want to pick up some Bobbi Brown products and I’ve always wanted the Bite Deconstructed Rose Lip Gloss Library but I know that it was limited edition so it’s a bit pricey to purchase now (honestly I just think it looks super pretty hehehe). I would also absolutely love to try the GlamGlow masks and more YSL lip products! (Sorry that was way more than one and I have so many more ><).

7. Envy: Which makeup product looks great on other but not on you?

Nude/pale lips. I’m sure that I just need to find the right shade but I’ve never owned or tried a nude lipstick that I’ve enjoyed. I always feel that I need at least a little bit of colour on my lips so I always go for more natural pinks on a daily basis. Even when I wear heavier eye makeup, I still feel that I look better with a my lips but better shade as opposed to nude.

Review: Banila Co. Style Eyeliner Pencil in Black

I remember coming across this eyeliner when I watched Bubzbeauty’s video showing how to do a complete smokey eye with this one eyeliner! It looked really creamy and so easy to blend. I knew it was something I had to pick up when I went into the Banila Co. store a few years ago and that was exactly what I did.

The packaging isn’t flimsy, I’ve never had an issue where the cap fell off the eyeliner (which is often the case with many of mine! ><). The only thing I dislike though is that it is non-retractable, which means frequent sharpening! Since it is a creamy eyeliner, this means that it gets blunt very often and sharpening causes a lot of the product to get wasted.

Top: Light swatch; Middle: Harder swatch; Bottom: Smudge test

The eyeliner really does apply easily. It glides over the lids smoothly with no fuss but it can be a little uneven so you may need to go over it a few times. It’s not the blackest black in colour so you might not like it depending on your personal preference. It also sets fairly fast so it’s necessary to blend as you go! On the other hand, applying the eyeliner in the waterline is great. You don’t need to go over the area multiple times to get great pigmentation, just twice is perfect! I definitely prefer it on the waterline but it would also act as a great base for smokey eyes.

Top: Applied as an eyeliner
Bottom: Smudged out as a smokey eye

Honestly, the fact that it needs sharpening throws me off a lot even if it might seem like a minor detail. I dislike sharpening pencils because I’m always nervous that they might break off so you end up wasting a lot of the product. It’s also just more convenient to twist up for more product when you need it. I think there are plenty of better eyeliners in the market! =)

♡ Easy to blend

♡ Very creamy

♡ Decent pigmentation

♡ Non-retractable

♡ Applies unevenly on eyelids

Review: Aritaum World Glam Coating Tint in Seoul

After having an amazing experience with the Honey Melting Tints, I was so excited to look into more lip tints produced by Aritaum! This particular one caught my attention because of its beautiful packaging and the consistency of the tint looked so different and unique. I decided to pick up the shade in Seoul because it was one of the most popular shades in the range and I thought it looked beautiful in all the swatches I saw of it!

I absolutely love the packaging of these lip tints. It makes me want to buy every single shade because I know that they would be so beautiful placed all next to each other! The product comes with a doe foot applicator and there is 9 mL of product inside.

The brush applicator picks up a sufficient amount of product for every application! I never find myself dipping it back into the tube to pick up more so this definitely saves a lot of time.

Left: Bare lips; Right: Light application

The lip tint is really creamy in texture and consistency. It applies and glides over the lips really easily. It has very good pigmentation and it smells really really nice – like lychees! The colour is a medium orange-red colour, which was not what I was expecting at all! The promo pictures made the shade look like a pinkish red but it is definitely on the orange side. I still really like this shade because I have nothing like it and it is perfect for spring and summer!

Stain after eating breakfast (oats of course hehe!)

After eating a light meal, the colour definitely fades but it leaves a nice tint on the lips. You can see that in comparison to my bare lips, my lips still has a lighter orange stain! It’s not an uneven kind of stain where it settles into fine lines or accentuates any areas, it’s even across the entire lips! I like how it looks really natural at this point and I don’t feel the need to reapply. Because all the moisture is gone, it can feel a little drying though so if this is something that may bother you, perhaps a lip balm would suffice over the top! =) If you happen to eat oilier food then  reapplication would be necessary because it will completely come off.

I also want to wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year!

♡ Beautiful packaging

♡ Very creamy in texture

♡ Easy to apply

♡ Highly pigmented

♡ Smells amazing like lychee

♡ Lasting power isn’t amazing (it’s only decent)

My Skincare Routine ♡

Taking care of your skin is so important and this is something we all know and have heard so many times over and over! It means you can wear less base makeup as well as look more healthy and youthful! Granted, I do not have the best skin in the world but through committing to a skincare routine, it has dramatically improved! =)

A typical skincare routine consists of 3 main steps: cleanser, toner and moisturiser. However, I have adapted to a more Korean-based skincare regime where there are several more steps involved, especially for nighttime. My skincare routine now consists of the following:

1. Cleanser

2. Toner

3. Serum

4. Moisturiser

5. Spot treatment

6. Masks and nose packs

For some, there are even more steps involved including using an essence and an emulsion before a moisturiser and/or a facial spray afterwards! I have found that incorporating extra steps into my skincare routine has allowed my skin to absorb more nutrients and vitamins to allow it to heal and repair. I know that there is a debate on whether using few products is better than using more but in my opinion, everyone’s skin has different needs and you need to find what is more suitable for you! =)

⟣ M O R N I N G

In the morning, I use fewer products because I want my skin to be as free of product as possible before I apply makeup.

Cleanser: Holika Holika Soda Pore BB Deep Cleansing Foam

As with all cleansers, I use the Clarisonic Mia 2 to work this into my skin. I feel that it leaves my skin feeling really nice and clean for my toner to apply onto. I will be doing a full review on this cleanser so be on the look out hehehe.

Toner: Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner

This is a very popular toner in Korea and I do enjoy it other than the fact that it has not minimised my pores whatsoever. I like it because it doesn’t make my skin feel too dry and it does a fantastic job at cleaning off any excess dirt or sebum on my skin.

Serum: Skinmiso Pore Corset Serum

As with the toner, this serum also has not changed the size of my pores at all. It does however, leave my skin feeling quite soft! I won’t be repurchasing it though once I finish it because I want to try other serums that can potentially minimise my pores! ><

Moisturiser: Nature Republic 92% Aloe Vera Soothing Gel

Please see the full review here. In a few words, this moisturising gel is the most amazing skincare product! It feels so lightweight on the skin and it settles into the skin so fast. It’s perfect before makeup application because you don’t need to wait long for it to absorb.

N I G H T

Your skin repairs itself most during sleep so it’s important that you cleanse it properly before you slip into bed! Pamper your skin at this time so it has the best opportunity for all the products to work their magic while you sleep. =)

♡ Cleanser: Holika Holika Soda Pore BB Deep Cleansing Foam OR Peel: Skinfood Fresh Apple Mild Pore Peeling Gel

SkincareRoutine1     SkincareRoutine1-2

For the most part, I do use the same cleanser morning and night. However, sometimes I use the peeling gel by Skinfood. It is different to the Pineapple version because it takes a much longer time for it to actually work into the skin and remove dead skin cells. I find that it takes a lot of pressure and effort to work the gel into the skin but after I do, my skin feels really soft and clear. It’s really interesting to see all your dead skin cells flaking off!

♡ Toner: Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner

I do not switch up my toners at all so I use the same one I use in the morning! To add onto my mini description from the morning routine, I do have to say that the bottle has lasted me the longest time. It comes in two sizes, 250 mL and 500 mL. I purchased the 500 mL bottle last year and I still feel as though I have at least a few more months left until I will completely use it up. If I missed out on any makeup removal, the toner does a great job at removing all the last traces!

Serum: Original Pure Vitamin C20 Serum

This is the absolute best-selling serum in Korea. It is raved for it’s unbelievable ability to treat acne scarring. My skin has improved overall but I can’t say I can give credit to this serum just because I did basically switch up my whole skincare routine. I would recommend you give it a try though if you do have acne scarring, just because I don’t think it would be a best seller if it really didn’t work!

1. Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream

Snail mucus has been a huge trend in Korea as I have mentioned in one of my earliest posts! I heard that Mizon was amazing for its snail range so I really wanted to give it a go, especially since I had fairly bad skin at the time. This gel is fast to apply and you don’t need a lot for the entire face.

2. Mizon Black Snail All In One Cream

This was originally what I wanted to purchase but I found that buying the cream together with the recovery gel was a great deal so I bit the bullet. This cream contains a high percentage of snail mucus but it really does not have a bad scent or anything. It is a little bit tacky/sticky to the touch but it doesn’t leave your skin feeling the same way. It’s not meant to be used as a moisturiser so I would recommend you apply a more nourishing one over the top.

3. Nature Republic 92% Aloe Vera Soothing Gel

I absolutely adore the feeling of this on my skin. I feel as though it helps all my skincare products absorb nicely into my skin. I don’t wake up with any sticky residue but my skin is rather more nourished and glowing! I feel that it helps all the other skincare products absorb too! (Full review)

Spot treatments: Ciracle Red Spot Cream

I honestly don’t think this spot cream really works for me but I do continue to use it when I need to because I don’t want it to go to waste. It reduces the size of spots slightly but on larger cystic type acne, it doesn’t do much.

Masks: Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask, Skinfood Fresh Aloe Pack & Sheet Masks

SkincareRoutine6-2   SkincareRoutine6-3

About once a week, I like to apply a mask on my face for extra treatment! Depending on my mood and skin, I will do a liquid, clay or sheet mask! If my skin is doing particularly bad one week then I will do the clay mask. I feel that it does a great job at extracting all the impurities and dirt out of my skin. My skin also looks a lot brighter and less red after I use it! =) I like the Skinfood Fresh Aloe Pack because it’s an easy mask to throw on and you only need to leave it on for 5 to 6 minutes. Sheet masks are just so fun to put on! =) And there are just so many out there that every facial is slightly different!

Nose packs: The Face Shop New Zealand Volcanic Clay Black Head Nose Pack

I enjoy this nose pack a lot, I feel like it does a great job at removing any blackheads on my nose. I like it more than nose strips because there are a lot more uses in one tube and it’s less harsh on the skin! You can also apply it to a larger area of the face, where a nose strip is more restrictive! I like to extend it out onto my inner cheeks because I have impurities there too.

My bare skin before I go to bed after I’ve used all my skincare products (plus lip balm that’s why my lips are darker than they naturally are =P)! I still suffer from rosacea and acne scarring but I no longer have moderate-severe acne like I did during my teenage years.

So that’s my skincare routine! If you have any questions or would like more in depth reviews please do let me know! I’ll be more than happy to do them! ♡

Review: Etude House Look At My Eyes Cafe in Cafe Latte & Caramel Latte

Etude House has a huge range of colours in their single eyeshadow collection so I had the toughest time picking out colours that I wanted to try. At the time, I was in need of some matte transition shades for crease work so I picked up two different browns and restricted myself from buying too many! But there are many other colours and finishes to choose from, plus they are so affordable so you definitely won’t feel guilty about picking up a few more than usual!

I think the packaging of these eyeshadows is super adorable! The eyeshadows themselves have a tiled heart pattern imprinted into them and they are in basic plastic containers so they are easy to store and you can see exactly what the colour is. I’m not entirely sure if they can be de-potted because I haven’t tried to before but I assume they can be! Cafe Latte is a more cooler toned brown whereas Caramel Latte is warmer. I feel either of them work perfect for subtle definition in the crease or as a transition shade.

Left: Light swatch; Middle: Three layers; Right: Smudge test

The eyeshadows feel very buttery and soft but are not overly powdery. I have no issues with fallout when I apply them and they last all day on me with no creasing. As you can see with the smudge test, the eyeshadows just sheer out a little but they do not smudge or merge together in the slightest.

Wearing Caramel Latte as a single eyeshadow look

The pigmentation of these eyeshadows are not too bad. If you want them to show up more bold then multiple layers are required! For days when I’m wearing simple eyeliner and I need a little something in the crease then a light application will suffice. Otherwise, I enjoy using this as a one eyeshadow look for natural school makeup days. It makes getting ready a lot quicker!

I think that these eyeshadows make great additions to a beginner’s makeup kit because they are so affordable and there are so many shades to choose from! If you’re on a budget then these will be great for you! If you already have an extensive range of eyeshadows then these aren’t a must-have.

♡ Extremely affordable

♡ Amazing colour range

♡ Decent but buildable pigmentation

♡ Can be a little on the sheer side

Review: I Want Shining Crystal Lip Tint (Memebox)

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! (It was yesterday for me but I know a lot of you are on the other side of the world so I thought I would post it hehehe).

This is one of the two things I purchased off Memebox before they decided to stop doing international shipping to Australia! =( I was so devastated to hear the news, I never got the chance to actually purchase one of their value deal boxes! I guess I should be glad I at least picked up a few minor items before the change.

This lip gloss is another product that has colour changing technology, creating a unique colour on everyone depending on the temperature of your lips! It also promises to last all day with no transfer. I am always curious to test out the lasting power of lip tints because I want to know if they truly do last the whole day like they claim to.

I Want Shining Crystal Lip Tint is translucent pink in the tube and applies clear onto the lips initially. A few seconds later, it will begin to transform into a pinker shade and then may darken up even further according to your lip temperature. It is definitely on the watery side, although I was expecting it to be similar to a gel in consistency but it feels moisturising on the lips without feeling sticky.

Standard squeeze tube packaging

The lip gloss itself is quite runny and I find that sometimes when I open it, it can spurt out some product when I haven’t pressed on it at all. This is a part of the packaging that frustrates me sometimes. =( I’m not even sure why it does this when I store it in a cool, dry place! You need to be careful when you open it so it doesn’t randomly spill out a lot of product!

Left: Straight from the tube; Right: Slightly blended out (it was already beginning to change colour because my fingers and hands were warm haha)

Top Left: Bare lips; Top Right: In the middle of transition
Bottom Left: After settling; Bottom Right: Applied a little more to build up the colour

On me, the lip gloss turns into a vibrant hot pink the more I apply. It’s a beautiful shade of pink but it’s a little too bright for my liking for everyday use, especially since I was hoping to be able to use this for university when I start the semester (no reapplication necessary!). Unfortunately, the pictures I took aren’t really picking up how bright the colour is in the sunlight! The thing is that you never really know what colour it will change to on a particular day and it’s so hard to take off! I remember the first time I used this I accidentally applied way too much and my lips were TOO bright and it just wouldn’t come off hahaha. The gloss came off but the stain was still very much present.

Left: Transfer test – the gloss comes off and a little hint of colour; Right: Aftermath! The stain remains after the gloss is gone

It gives a very glossy finish when you first apply it but it will begin to gradually wear off throughout the day and leave a matte pink stain. When you eat or drink, the gloss layer disappears but the colour is still very much present. It does not come off and stains beautifully! It’s not incredibly uneven or patchy, which is amazing. =)

♡ Incredibly long lasting

♡ Does not transfer

♡ Unique colour on everyone

♡ Comfortable to wear

♡ Spurts out product when opened sometimes

♡ Colour change is always different
