Holika Holika is a brand I only recently started looking into and during my search, I saw that this specific cleanser was reviewed as being quite nice. I was in the market for a new cleanser but I wasn’t completely sure on which one or type I should pick up but this particular one caught my eye. It isn’t a product that is very widespread in the beauty blogging community so I wanted to share my experience with it! =)
The cleanser’s active ingredients and their purposes include:
① Soda bead and sparking water – removes BB cream and skin wastes, deeply cleanses pores
② Baking powder – helps remove sebum and black heads
③ Witch hazel and tea tree – tightens pores, removes sebum and skin wastes
④ Harrogate sparkling water – supplies abundant minerals to the skin
The cleanser itself is a very thick and white cream with small blue exfoliating beads distributed throughout. The scent of this cleanser is amazing. It smells just like lemonade! =)
The cleanser comes in standard squeeze tube packaging
The cleanser lathers beautifully on the skin. It requires no effort for the cream to transform into a foam when the skin is slightly damp. As with all cleansers, I use my Clarisonic Mia 2 to deeply work the product into my skin. My skin does not feel dry or stripped of any facial oils afterwards (but keep in mind that my skin is not sensitive)! My skin appears a lot brighter and is not extremely red like it normally is when I use other cleansers.
Although I have been enjoying this cleanser, it hasn’t helped my acne or acne scarring so this means I will not repurchase it immediately and try some other cleansers. However, it does leave my skin feeling very clean and that is what it claims to do so I wouldn’t say I am disappointed. I normally do not just use a cleanser to remove my makeup because I feel that it is inefficient and I take off a majority of it during the shower anyway. If you wear lighter makeup then this cleanser will help remove most of it but I would still recommend either using a makeup remover beforehand or following up with a toner afterwards just to remove any excess!
Also big FYI, it does burn if it gets in your eyes so please be careful! I was tearing up so badly when I was washing too close to my eyes (silly mistake on my part though =P)!
♡ Lathers very nicely
♡ Only need a pea-sized amount
♡ Cleanses skin well
♡ Inexpensive
♡ Smells good (exactly like lemonade!)
♡ Does not dramatically change skin in terms of acne or scarring
Sadly there is another problem with products like these. The microbeads get into the water system and poison fish and coral. I’ve been trying to be more conscious of the products I use. My skin might look better but adding to the destruction of the planet is not the one! 🙂

Aw no! I totally overlooked that and didn’t look into it. 😦 The beads do sort of disintegrate though so I hope it’s not as harmful as it sounds!

You might be alright then, it made me feel really guilty when I read abour it.

I really hope so! 😦 Thank you for the heads up about it though, I’ll definitely try to be more careful the next time I pick up skincare products with beads!

Great review! I’ve never heard of this product. I usually use cetaphil cleanser and it seems to work for me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to trying something new.

I like that you did a super close up on the cleanser to show the exfoliating beads. I guess as long as it didn’t break you out then it’s ok! Great review!

Hehe yes I wanted to make sure all of you could see it! 😛 And yes so true, if it doesn’t break me out then I’m already really really happy! 😀 ❤ Thank you Joy!

Aww that’s too bad it didn’t help in those two areas, but at least it didn’t make things worse!

I know! So true though, as long as I don’t get any crazy breakouts it’s all good haha. 😀

Ouch, I hate face cleaners that sting the eyes! It’s inevitable that I’d get some near my eyes especially rinsing.
The lemonade scent is intriguing though… yummy.

I know! I was so worried I was going to go blind or something because it wouldn’t stop stinging! 😦 I’m super careful now though! And yesss it smells too good!

I currently use the Body Shop Chamomile oil cleanser…Kind of a strange product because it’s an oil that you put on a dry face and then lather a tiny bit by adding water after you’ve scrubbed the oil in. It cleanses beautifully, leaves my skin feeling hydrated, and has definitely made a difference in how clear and even my skin looks now! 🙂

This was I my recent Holika Holika haul, as someone mentioned the thing I was worried about was the micro-beads. I only recently became aware of that harm of them so have been trying to be more conscious about it. I didn’t realise it had them when I bought it. I’ve used it a few times so far, it is quite nice and the beads are not as much as in other products.

Yes, I know! 😦 I didn’t realise until someone else mentioned it but you’re right, there isn’t that many beads inside and I feel like they do break down when you wash your face so hopefully it’s not too harmful!

I like deep cleaning on my face and this product sounds like what it’s meant to do 🙂 great product review, especially for a product that’s not widely spread in the blogging community. Can’t wait to read to read more posts about products that aren’t relatively popular! 🙂 xx

Yes! 😀 A good cleanser definitely has to deep cleanse the skin! Thank you, I haven’t seen any reviews on it so far so I’m glad to introduce the product and the brand! 😀 Hehe I actually recently made an order on eBay so I can’t wait to receive everything and review them when it arrives! ❤

Yes they’re supet cheap (€5)… only tried one so far but there are about 5 in the range. The ‘Watery’ one had really good coverage. .a bit light for me but I fix that with powder 🙂

That’s so cheap! 😀 Hehe I know, that’s the problem I have with BB creams. Most of them are just too pale for me!

Yes that’s true but I find a darker powder on top really helps! Yes to carrots and Rimmel have darker BB creams if you want to take a look 🙂

Hey, I just gave this another try because I was just using a Holika Holika BB cream and had buffed it in pretty good. I needed a bit of a scrub to get it out of my pores 🙂 You are right the little beads do break down, they are not micro-beads. Once I had rubbed it all over my face I noticed there was no blue left. They must be part of the soda cleansing system. It was good for getting all the remaining BB cream off my face, it was rather a full coverage one so just needed that extra clean.

Hey! 😀 Yes they do right? Hehe so glad it’s actually not bad for the environment! 😀 Yeah I think the beads burst open and has other ingredients inside of them or something like that. I’m glad it worked in removing the rest of your makeup!
