Review: L’Oreal Paris Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara in All Black & Pop Turquoise

L'OrealMangaMascaraPackaging

As a member of the Beautyheaven Trial Team, I was sent a few items from L’Oreal to write reviews on their website. Two of the items were these mascaras that I’m going to be reviewing today! =) I was really excited because I always like trying out new mascaras and this was the first time I’ve ever used a coloured mascara! I was so shocked at how bright the colour was when I opened the tube and I was even more excited to try it out to see how it would look on the eyelashes!

The claims of the mascara are that it “volumises to give lashes a doll eyed effect“, “adds volume to upper and lower lashes” and the brush is designed be “ultra-flexible to cover lashes from root to tip“.

L'OrealMangaMascaraBrush

The mascara really does have a really unique brush wand. I’ve never quite seen anything like it. It’s tapered and the very tip has barely any plastic bristles. It also is definitely flexible so it’s easy to manoeuvre the brush and coat every lash. I’ve found that because the tip has no bristles, it really picks up a lot of product so you can’t use the technique where you use the tip of the mascara to grab harder to reach and shorter lashes because it just places a clump of product onto them.

Top: No mascara; Middle: Mascara on the right eye only; Bottom: Mascara on both eyes (using All Black)

I quite like this mascara. It adds enough length to my lashes to make them stand out and they give great volume but I think manga-like lashes is an overstatement. I had higher expectations due to the name (especially for my upper lashes, I’m very satisfied with my lower lashes) but at the same time, it did not perform horribly and I will continue to use it! I think that if you’re interested in trying out coloured mascaras, Pop Turquoise is a fantastic choice! It is such a fun way to add some colour to your makeup look without being too out there or bold. It is also very buildable in comparison to the black and doesn’t clump up! They also have two other shades in Electric Blue and Tropical Violet, which I am also intrigued to try!

In case you were curious on what the Pop Turquoise looks like! (I’m wearing All Black on my upper lashes too). It definitely adds a little something but it doesn’t have to be over the top depending on how many coats you apply.

The reason why I can’t give the product a full rating is because it’s still not what I imagine to be the “perfect mascara”. I definitely think it is a great one to try because I know that everyone has had a great experience with it but like I said, I’m still looking for the perfect mascara that exceeds my highest expectations! =P

I’ve been dubious about purchasing this mascara but I may try it! I have really long lashes naturally so it might make not as much difference to them but it might be interesting to see what they do for them!

Haha. I have a wife and daughter. It’s good for me to be in “the know” on these kind of topics. If you ever visit California, let me know and I’ll set you and your friends up with some free LA comedy show tickets! 🙂

Yay, I’m happy that you will understand them somewhat through my posts! 😛 And thank you so much, I’ll definitely keep that in mind! I would love to visit California someday! I’ve only been to the East coast so the West is definitely on my top travel destinations list. 😀

I wish the black version didn’t smudge so much on me because it did give good volume! The blue on the lower lashes is a cool way to add a little color.

Great review. I’ve always wanted to try the L’oreal mascaras but I have quite a few lined up after I run out of the current ones I’m using. Would you want to wear the blue on top? It seems like a subtle blue though, I might be wrong though!

Thank you Janice! ❤ You should try it! I haven't really used any horrible mascaras yet LOL I've found that a majority of them work the same on me. 😛 you could use the blue one on top but it's kind of subtle by itself already if you don't layer it! 😀

Haha same!? I like mascaras that lengthen and give volume? Lol. I’m not sure about the volume part but definitely lengthen because my lashes are small and point downwards, oh dear!

Haha yes me too! Just ones that make my lashes stand out more. 😛 Especially since I’m on a no eyeliner kick right now. My lashes point downwards too! 😦 It’s hard to find mascaras that hold them up! 😦

I really love this mascara. I have it in black, but now I’m tempted to buy the blue 🙂
I agree that it is not as amazing as i’d hoped, but still really great for a drugstore mascara!

Definitely pick up a coloured one! ❤ They're so fun, I'm tempted to pick up the others. 😛 Hehe definitely, it's not horrible but I still was expecting more! 😛 Really hoping that one day I'll find an absolute holy grail mascara that isn't too expensive!

I’m probably going to try coloured mascara at some point – do you know if any particular mascara colours suit different types of eyes?
EG: blue might look best with brown eyes, yet it’s avoidable to match that colour with green eyes?

Thank you! ❤ Hehe I was hesitant to try the turquoise too but I liked it when I had it on, it wasn't too obvious at all! 😀 Had to be really up close to see it, especially since I only put a little bit on hehehe! (I put more for the picture though! :P)

You should definitely try it out! 😀 And no, of course I don’t mind! ❤ I'm not much of a reader though so it'll be difficult for me to answer the questions. 😦

It’s totally fun! 😀 It’s made me want to experiment so much more with colour! Thank you for letting me know your favourites, I’ve never tried any higher end mascaras before! You’re welcome! 🙂 ❤

It’s tough, because when you pay $30+ for a mascara, you expect it to be consistently good and that’s not always the case. There are some excellent high-end ones, but mascara is one product that I think drugstore and high-end are on about equal ground.

That’s so true! I’ll definitely only go by recommendations if I’m going to be spending a lot on a mascara! I’d be so disappointed if it didn’t perform well at that price point. That’s definitely great to know! 😀 It’s one less makeup product I don’t need to spend a lot on!

I’m almost 40 years old and can tell you I’ve come to learn over all these years, never buy Walmart brand mascara lol. My oldest had to force my arm on money and go Mac with that lol. Now she’s showing me Naked pallette eye shadow, and all kinds of higher end makeup and I must admit IT IS THE BEST lol. I jusy hate having to pay that much, so keep up experimenting cause if you find some awesome cheaper products….. I WANT TO KNOW FA SURE LMBO

LOL thank you for the heads up, I’ll stay well away! 😛 I totally agree, high end makeup is amazing and it’s so fun to play around with it but definitely, it’s a struggle financially because it adds up! I will keep you updated on all my makeup experimentations, I tend to purchase products on the more inexpensive if I’m testing products out so I hope you’ll look forward to them! 😀
