Review: Banila Co. Style Eyeliner Pencil in Black

I remember coming across this eyeliner when I watched Bubzbeauty’s video showing how to do a complete smokey eye with this one eyeliner! It looked really creamy and so easy to blend. I knew it was something I had to pick up when I went into the Banila Co. store a few years ago and that was exactly what I did.

The packaging isn’t flimsy, I’ve never had an issue where the cap fell off the eyeliner (which is often the case with many of mine! ><). The only thing I dislike though is that it is non-retractable, which means frequent sharpening! Since it is a creamy eyeliner, this means that it gets blunt very often and sharpening causes a lot of the product to get wasted.

The eyeliner really does apply easily. It glides over the lids smoothly with no fuss but it can be a little uneven so you may need to go over it a few times. It’s not the blackest black in colour so you might not like it depending on your personal preference. It also sets fairly fast so it’s necessary to blend as you go! On the other hand, applying the eyeliner in the waterline is great. You don’t need to go over the area multiple times to get great pigmentation, just twice is perfect! I definitely prefer it on the waterline but it would also act as a great base for smokey eyes.

Honestly, the fact that it needs sharpening throws me off a lot even if it might seem like a minor detail. I dislike sharpening pencils because I’m always nervous that they might break off so you end up wasting a lot of the product. It’s also just more convenient to twist up for more product when you need it. I think there are plenty of better eyeliners in the market! =)

Can I join the dislike club? I hate it when an eyeliner requires sharpening. That’s the only thing I dislike about my favorite Tarte eyeliner 😦

Like you, I think it wastes too much product! Great review! 😀

I’ve never had a bad of an issue with smudging before but it might be because you’re using eyeliners that are too creamy so they smudge more easily especially if you have watery eyes or oily eyelids! Try adding an eyeshadow on top of it to make it last longer or use an eyeshadow primer so it prevents smudging! I’ve heard that using a setting powder under your eyes help too! 😀 Unfortunately I haven’t tried many drier eyeliner formulas so I can’t really recommend any to you but one that I enjoyed using was the black one from Physician’s Formula (it comes in a trio)! It’s creamy though so I’m not 100% sure if it won’t smudge on you! 😦 😦

Thank you!!! I only use it on the bottom of my eyes, but for some reason I cannot find any that don’t smudge!! It could be because I don’t wear any other makeup, so maybe if I wore some sort of foundation it would settle in, but I’m not sure. Thanks for the recommendations!

You’re welcome! 😀 It’s definitely a struggle for a lot of people! 😦 I hope I gave you some helpful tips to try! It’s probably just because you need a little something for it to set! 🙂 🙂 ❤
